When a friend asked me last week about how we dealt
with Sam’s meal plan at college, I had to explain that it
involved sleeping bags, lawn chairs,
a soccer ball and, if the weather is really bad, a tent.
Camping out at the Mechanicsville, VA Chick-fil-aOh, and did I mention that he has to leave about 24 hours early
in order to be one of the first 100 in line. Because that is how
popular these Chick-fil-a grand openings have become.
So far Sam is 2 for 4. Two of the openings he was on his way to
attend, were “filled” before he got there.
Those lucky first 100 each receive 52 meal coupons….
enough to eat once a week for a year.
The more grand openings one attends--
the more times a week one can eat chicken sandwiches,
waffle fries & sodas.
Hmmm…sounds like a plan to me. A meal plan.
A long wait...a day and a night but there are things
to do meals, dancing, pick up soccer
Of course, there really isn’t such a thing as a “Free lunch.”
In March, he and his friends endured nearly 24 hours of
nasty weather. There was lightening and rain in the tent,
which meant sitting up all night in a lawn chair until 6 a.m.
when the Chick-fil-a opened the door, fed those hardy souls breakfast
and gave them their precious little box of coupons.
Last week, the weather was summer pleasant in
Mechanicsville, VA (near Richmond)
and the boys slept out under the stars---
on the asphalt parking lot.
Interesting note. At the March event Sam noticed an older man
who spent that stormy night without a tent, covered with
plastic garbage bags and sitting up in his lawn chair.
Last week, there he was again.
Eighty-five years old, a WWII veteran (Normandy),
this was his 10th grand opening. That calculates out to
more than one combo a day....Now that is a meal plan!!

Today my son offered to treat me to lunch at the mall? Guess where??
Surprise!! Guess who we run into??
A few other coupon-carrying Chick-fil-a believers.
