I am usually not so spontaneous...
But when my friend Christine called to tell me
that an historic event was happening today

But when my friend Christine called to tell me
that an historic event was happening today
at the U.S. Capitol where she works,
I just had to go....
Then I was on my way...
Leaving Union Station, I noticed flags at half mast...
A gorgeous day to take a walk...
The usual number of protesters and proponents
for everything---including hearings for Nominee Kagan...
Entry to the new Visitors' Center is well done...
Nicole got a summer job at the Capitol
What a special treat for her mother...
and for me to see one of my former History
students in such an historic location.
Security was tight in the Senate chamber
where Senator Byrd's casket
was on the floor where he spent most of his career.
After some time in the Visitors' Center exhibits and film,
I was on my way back home.
Thank you Christine for making my day!!
