Late Summer Miscellany

"There is still no cure for the common birthday." John Glenn
"Getting old is a fascinating thing. The older you get,
the older you want to get." Keith Richards
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM!! 65 looks good on you!!
Sam had to work but Sarah, Lauren and Grineys
helped him celebrate with steak, corn on the cob
and his favorite lemon cake!!
He received coffee, chocolate and...
a "Family Photo" from our "back-up daughters"!!!
In addition to birthday---this was a SOCCER weekend!
The Covenant Life Homecoming
included a Varsity vs Alumni Game.

which ended in a tie and then penalty kicks!!
As in days of old, that powerful left foot hit its mark.
And these guys---some who've been playing together
since Middle School
--WON the game!!
Many had attended a Terps soccer game the night before..
and watched their team beat Duke!!!
Of course, that was Jim's second game of the evening...
He had watched his Middle School Girls Soccer team tie with WIS
a few hours earlier. He is so proud of his girls!!!Meanwhile back at school, I continue to try to keep
the world together with scotch tape.
Last weekend Sara hosted Jim, me, Diane & Drew to an evening
at her favorite biker bar...Lou and Joe's in Mount Airy.
We had to go into the bar to cuss...And while some folks were eating crabs...
we opted for some of the best crab cakes I've had !!
We may seem a little fuzzy---
but we were just having a good time!!
Flashback to late August to another birthday!!
Sam turned 22 & we celebrated with ribs at Coastal Flats
and a Terps soccer game with friends!!
On the way to dinner that night,
we were delayed on the beltway...

by 500 motorcyclists--NYC firefighters
& NYFD Engine 343
bringing a piece of steel
from the World Trade Center to present
to the firefighters in Arlington--the first responders
to the Pentagon
on 9-11-01
Parked on each overpass was a firetruck & firemen
saluting
their fellow firefighters. It was a moving sight.SUMMER LEAGUE--was like Deja Vu--
watching Tommy at goal

Sam, Neal, Brynn & others do what they love...
"Whoever invented football should be worshiped as a God."
